Left New Orleans, LA Noon Central Time. With stops in Vacherie, LA; and Beaumont, TX. Final destination Houston, TX approx. 10:30PM Central Time. 400 miles.
Woke up excited that we were still in NOLA (any place where you can drink in public in front of equestrian police officers is a good place)
Morning began by visiting many of the touristy spots: ate beignets at Cafe du Monde; strolled through Jackson Square; and peeked inside St. Louis Cathedral - the oldest cathedral in America.
Hit the road around noon to Plantation Country. We were misfits at B&C Seafood for lunch, but got to eat gator and various seafood poboys. (here are the gator nuggets)
Then headed down the road to Oak Alley Plantation. (Looked like Mel Gibson's house in the Patriot)
Received a guided tour of a creole plantation - Laura's - next door.
Following our afternoon journey through the past, we hit I-10 west and cruised to Beaumont, TX. Highlight of this drive was our crossing of the Mississippi River. In Beaumont, we met up with Rosemary. Delicious Tex-Mex ensued. Phenomenal queso!
After dinner, we had perhaps the most exciting event of the trip: a photo session with the 3rd largest fire hydrant in the world.
Said good-bye to Rosemary, and put the pedal down towards Houston. Arrived at about 10:30PM Central Time to find a barefooted Davis in the parking lot. Classic.
Finally united, we plan to cross the biggest, most obnoxious state in the contiguous U.S. in a single day.
All the Road's Best,
The Dudes
